This was an exciting couple of weeks. There was a fair deal of work with which I am comfortable and competent to execute, as well as a good deal of learning new practical skills. After a week long intensive first aid course, I feel like a much more competent citizen, with a basic understanding of how to help a person in need. At the same time, it was a experience humbling and I hope I should never have to dress a sucking chest wound or provide traction for a broken femur.
Leadership was another interesting aspect of the course work and though I wasn't explicitly engaging in a leadership position it was neat to see those skills emerging from within the student cohort.
As summer settles in, the spring is subject to reflection. It can be tricky to evaluate performance when your measure of success is not in line with the socially accepted standards. That being said, it feels like things are moving in the right direction and though there is always room for improvement... the current path is certainly pleasant. The future will consist of more of the same, with a bit of refinement.KearsleyDesignhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15677774348317395289noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33992658.post-29499631924704805832013-05-23T12:47:00.000-07:002013-05-23T12:47:39.149-07:00Cruising Altitude.

It is almost like I know what I am doing... but not quite.

Things are going very smoothly these days. Work has been coming in at a consistent yet manageable flow. There is even some degree of security with contracts being signed for future projects and invitations to new positions. I feel compelled towards some small scale expansion/refinement of my processes, even bringing others in on some appropriate projects.

Within all of this there even exists a bit of relaxation and freedom. Time to garden, tan hides, draw and mess around with my bikes. Like I said, it's almost like I know what I am doing...

There is certainly a mountain or two to climb in the not too distant future but I feel comfortable in my current state and I imagine it will be an excellent challenge with some appreciable benefits upon completion. I will let you all know how it goes. Until then... Be Well.KearsleyDesignhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15677774348317395289noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33992658.post-9465349663596564082013-04-05T14:14:00.000-07:002013-04-05T14:14:14.440-07:00Saint Spring

This spring has arrived with a small handful of treasures. Mostly intangible, these little pieces are all fitting together quite nicely into the bigger picture. Some simple realizations certainly help the fit (mostly, patience), as will a bit of nudging, scraping and pounding, but on the whole, things are looking pretty sharp. Some of these treasures include a new focus in my Zone 1 garden, potential partners in a compelling collaborative project, future career opportunities befitting of the masterplan and gallons of home brewed wine that tastes great and works even better. Also, the morels have shown up this year and they are always delightful.

On a differnet note, I have been doing a bit of drawing from life and thought I would share some of this with the world. This is from a recent trip to San Deigo's Mission Beach.KearsleyDesignhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15677774348317395289noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33992658.post-78745573316997166892013-02-25T22:24:00.003-08:002013-02-25T22:24:53.395-08:00El Regresso

It was a busy year. Kind of. Apparently too busy to maintain my silly little blog here.
But after speaking with a number of "frequent users" I realised that there is more to these posts than my own cathartic musings. Some people (I won't mention any names), some where (I won't point my finger) like to see my art work and it makes me really happy to oblige.

As far as the rest of life goes... I'll be brief. Peru, work, work, work, Peru, bike riding and "poaching" fruit, backpacking, Advanced Permaculture Training, two lost sketchbooks, no work, no work, no work, Holidays and a trip to the Bay Area and the most recent chapter involves a return to my old haunts at the alma mater. Weave a beautiful woman through all that racket and that sums up 2012 for myself.

Things are going well enough now. I am still balancing a number of projects and some tasks are going better than others. All of them seem to fit into the big picture and I imagine I am learning something from each of them. The future holds some cool new potentials and I will do better to keep those interested parties up to date. On the horizon... my work will be published in an international magazine, my worms will be free ranging in the garden and hopefully my current sketchbook will stick around long enough to reach completion. I will try to keep it brief but help you understand where I currently am.

Learning, working and enjoying oneself are all great ways to spend time. The last year of my life has contained a good deal of each though the relationship between the three has seemed a bit erratic. It can be hard to see where those three activities overlap, abut or totally deviate from each other. In hindsight it is all making perfect sense and as this spring draws near I am beginning to understand the successes, failures, mistakes and lessons from the previous leg of my journey.

Looking forward, my role is becoming a little more defined. A few projects on my horizon may offer up a chance to do just that.

Again, the potential is piling up. Hopefully some of those past experiences will help me sort through the heap. By the looks of it, there are some premium prizes within. Take for instance, an alpaca hat. As in most cases though, too much of a good thing... and pretty soon your pursuing something else.

A routine developed this summer. All of our projects were well enough managed, free time was enjoyed and the life was pretty fat. After settling into this position I came to realize that a few things were missing. Specifically, full stewardship of a small piece of land, consistent professional work throughout the winter and all winters to come, and an Ox cart.

These ideas are not totally new and instead have been buried under a pile of other plans. As another birthday passed and the whole experience came under review I realised that the old plans were losing steam and new inspiration would be necessary. Inspiration comes in many beautiful forms, including home loan info packets, hanging valleys with alpine lakes and waltzing in my kitchen. After a good deal of questions and consideration, the new goals have been clearly identified (see above) and forward progress has already begun. Though I cannot see from here, the road looks to be 4 years long, so stay tuned for new projects this winter, a housewarming party someday and the eventual painting of the Ox Cart.
Sasquatchumoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16213572025613802606noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33992658.post-34612101819781106972011-06-07T11:01:00.003-07:002011-06-08T18:59:08.479-07:00Where its At

This has been an interesting time of year. The next move forward will involve another couple of community work projects in order to show our fellow Hamsters what sort of potential this little city really has. Each little step has its own unique character from which I try to learn. This ungrounded sensation taught me a good deal about the value of space. Finding good space, sharing space, not having space. It all takes a certain getting used to.

In one night, I will be moved into a new space, which is looking like an incredibly awesome potential. There are certainly a few holes to patch but the bigger picture is rich with the pieces I have been longing for... a shop, a yard, my own room and very little oversight monitoring the creative process. There are a few big irons in the fire but I am certain they will be well formed by the time they are needed and after that we're gonna use these tools to move mountains... of mulch, and poo, and bricks, and compost, and food... Lots of yummy food.
Sasquatchumoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16213572025613802606noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33992658.post-68775706410634998652010-10-25T21:37:00.003-07:002010-10-25T21:50:29.097-07:00A Drift...After recently moving out, without a real move in to follow it up, I have felt a little ungrounded. It's a funny lesson. After spending two years in my backpack, four walls and a room to call my own were almost a novelty. Now that I am without these elements, their full value is clearly understood. My life and work are currently scattered throughout the city, boxed up in a circus shed or in desperate need of repair. It's rough too, because I was just starting to gain momentum. Now the challenge will be to hold that energy on my own as I have very little space to plant it... I guess I will see what sorts of hospitality Bellingham has to offer. It won't be too long though. Soon, we will have a place to call our own and a dangerous level of creative freedom. I am sure I will survive this next step but I am cetainly looking forward to life after this phase... Until Then.... Be Well.Sasquatchumoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16213572025613802606noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33992658.post-85304951898070822102010-09-18T19:09:00.003-07:002010-09-18T19:34:01.811-07:00Paradise?When everything is working together, better than you could ever imagine... it's pretty spooky. There is a certain type of energy that builds and as I am watching this happen, I can't help but feel a few goosebumps rising on my neck. Watching little opportunities come about, then align into bigger opportunities, then align yet again into a very slim chance at something next to miraculous... is very remarkable thing to witness. Flowing through all of these perfectly aligning holes at exactly the right time will be a definite challenge. My plan is to keep doing what I am doing and not get to preoccupied with the magnitude of this potential. Its better to not get one's hopes up about chances as slim as these, however I can't help but feel incredibly blessed to bear witness to my particular perspective.

I know this is all very cryptic and I keep it that way for good reason. If this one does pan out as I am seeing it... reflecting on this message will be a nearly surreal experience. I will keep you posted as best as I can and if you have any to spare, please wish me luck.
Sasquatchumoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16213572025613802606noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33992658.post-54209088680142402932010-08-12T20:30:00.002-07:002010-08-12T20:47:56.880-07:00ReturnsMy most recent sojourn was certainly one to remember. I made plenty of new friends ( Hello to any and all new attendees :), learned all manner of things and returned home with a fresh sense of inspiration. As soon as I got back I took up a few new positions where this inspiration might manifest into some pretty fun projects. The same rules are going to apply...

1. You have to do something.

2. You can't do it all.

3. You'd better like what your doing.

That being the case, I plan to stay the course I'm travelling. As the slow climb up takes me out of the trees, a neat new perspective is starting to emerge. The views are bit more epic, and the forest is becoming a bit more clear. A few monuments are helping me orient myself and I feel like things are only looking up.

Sasquatchumoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16213572025613802606noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33992658.post-23885527848200796792010-07-14T15:09:00.004-07:002010-07-14T15:38:09.768-07:00The SwellsSummer is moving along quite smoothly. The milestones come and go with the breeze and plans are already surfacing for winter activities. My world is growing and shrinking with a confusing consistency. In one moment, the whole picture is so visible the beauty is overwhelming. The next moment I'm buried beneath all of the ugly details that come with reality. This process repeats itself as I swim between the swells. It's all good though. The water is warm and clean and the sun is shining. Our garden is growing with serious vigor and the prospect of finding a new place to live is very entertaining. It will be interesting to see how this summer is reflected upon and I imagine that some of the choices made in the next few weeks will largely shape that reflection. My goals and perspective remain the same throughout... To do as much as I can and no more. I will let you know how it is all going the next time we speak. Until then, Be Well. Each of these little worlds were so close, as if they were viewed through the keyhole of an unlocked door. It can be a bit overwhelming to see so much potential laid out before you. I have had to employ some powerful tools in order to keep from lunging at these passing opportunities.

Regardless of all of these alternative paths the one I have laid out already, the one I am currently walking is pretty perfect. There are challenges, rewards, scenery and some far out characters. This journey is almost entirely of my own design and as I look down the road I can see clearly that I am heading right where I want to go.
Sasquatchumoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16213572025613802606noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33992658.post-82623764250961478722010-04-01T13:09:00.003-07:002010-05-24T09:29:47.114-07:00Clutter...Im not sure what to write right now, but I wanted to get this picture up before too long. I have started a new sketchbook with the specific goal of saturation. As the spring time comes on hard its pretty clear that our once sparse landscape is about to fill out. My personal schedule has recently lulled a little as a few old projects wrapped up but future commitments are piling up for a pretty hectic spring tempest. I guess its best that I just enjoy this short calm before the storm and spend my time investigating a few of the inspirational projects that have been kept on the back burners. Think... It's funny because they are going exactly according to plans... almost uncannily so. Winter larders are running thin and as spring approaches, the prospect of fresh new growth precariously rests on the heads of falling stocks. There are many opportunities to make it through this transition but with limited supplies, being resourceful will be key.

The five year plan for the last four years is almost in full effect. The business is growing. Our work is well received and it will be interesting to test our points of leverage. I have a feeling that the potential is far beyond anything I can imagine... and I am a pretty good imaginer. All we can do now is be patient and keen, stick to the plan and make sure that we are doing all of the work that needs to be done. With that being case... I better get back to work.
Sasquatchumoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16213572025613802606noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33992658.post-38147247167119958112010-02-14T20:12:00.003-08:002010-02-15T18:47:07.505-08:00HABITatsI recently tied two of my worlds together in a very real way. After living and working in two seemingly separate habitats for the past six years, a short bike trip and boat ride put it all into perspective. It was a very encouraging realisation that these two places are so much closer than one might think.

It was also very encouraging to spend time in the presence of genuine superheroes. Some people just understand what is really valuable in this world. To share those things with them is a good step towards gaining that understanding for yourself.

In the mean time I am back at home trying to keep the fire stoked, but not too hot; keep the pans clean, but well seasoned and to keep an eye on the future while not losing sight of whats right in front of me. I am sure there are physics equations and technical definitions but understanding just how much you can handle is a really tricky problem. I am some sort of limbo... maybe its more of a calibration period. It seems like I need to do more though when I look at my list of things to do its a pretty healthy page of tasks. Future projects loom while past projects linger and I am watching it all from behind the windshield of a rusty old truck. Either way I can still see where I am headed and it looks to be pretty sweet. The short terms will soon be wrapped up and the most epic project to date will soon get off of the ground... or into the ground... depends on how you look at it.

For an explanation of this picture... http://www.cascadiaweekly.com/pdfs/issues/201003.pdf
Sasquatchumoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16213572025613802606noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33992658.post-72092003089543877402009-12-20T11:26:00.003-08:002009-12-20T11:59:22.103-08:00Homework
The challenges of writing your own schedule seem particularly special. When the road in front of us goes wherever we tell it too, its hard not to move too fast. I have been trying to keep as busy as I need to, though I will continue to calibrate my system. Right now I work in and out of my bedroom, in the morning, in the night time, in the afternoon, or not all. Its pretty fun and as the line between work and life gets more and more fuzzy, I say let it go. If it works out right, we won't even go to work anymore as everything we need is right at home.Sasquatchumoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16213572025613802606noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33992658.post-46207079041447044512009-12-05T16:01:00.005-08:002009-12-05T16:16:20.496-08:00Settling Down...
It seems like the transitional theme is going to carry through the holidays. Having been in and out of my new home so much, I am little disorientated but damn am I ready to lay some roots. It's like I stepped away from town just far enough to see the beauty of the bigger picture. A few pieces of what I enjoy so much are starting to come together, including but not limited too, a guerilla art gallery, putting gardens on top of athletic fields, super funky dance parties and splitting wood with friends. As the winter approaches I am feeling pretty warm and cozy... but deep down on the inside I cannot wait for this spring. See you there.Sasquatchumoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16213572025613802606noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33992658.post-2324311517724495702009-11-08T14:38:00.001-08:002009-11-08T14:47:42.167-08:00Move in...The process of moving in to my new home is mostly complete but the culture shock piece is just about to hit. It is pretty amazing how great this new environment is and it will be challenging to shed some of the old habits which keep me from making the best of this opportunity. I feel like this is the time to really take hold of what I want in life and never let go. Everything is in its perfect place and the future of our culture is so close I can taste it... or at least walk outside and harvest some for me and my friends.Sasquatchumoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16213572025613802606noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33992658.post-91386931481280877662009-10-13T18:12:00.004-07:002009-10-13T18:25:23.900-07:00Homeward...Moving is exciting. Especially when there is no rush to it. I am taking my time to make certain that all loose ends will be wrapped up. I am also working on the transference of momentum so that I can land in the Ham with a fair amount of force. Some projects are wrapping up as others are coming into the coffer. All is going well even in spite of a sharp little reality check. My right arm has been on the fritz as of late. Nothing too worrisome, but a good reminder to be grateful for what you have... and to stretch out, relax a little and to stand up straight. All of which are good habits to work on.Sasquatchumoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16213572025613802606noreply@blogger.com1
